A performance featuring 1 bell ringer and 2 guitarists with chronic pain, SIN DESTINO : CORAZON LIBRE is a sonic exploration into doom metal channeled through gothic diva femme fatale energy. SIN DESTINO : CORAZON LIBRE presents an intimately otherworldly performance drawing from the musical language of dystopian sci-fi films. As the artist's mother, Aida Joranko, voices quotes from Terminator 2 and Wild at Heart in Spanish, we are grounded in the reminder that there is still agency in apocalyptic times. As guitars cut through the screams of cicadas in the wind and erratic human heartbeats, a chthonic and cinematic soundscape emerges.
SIN DESTINO is an intimate feminist ritual in which darkness serves not to evoke fear but to defend, empower, and heal. In this work, is a space suspended between doom metal performance and Lynchian, metaphysical trance. The theatrical curtains delimit the transformation threshold beyond which the eponymous “NO FATE”- an allusion to the apocalyptic Terminator movie universe-becomes a spell against the vision of a devastated climate and ubiquitous surveillance.
The central element of the installation is formed by cyborg guitars: incarnated sensitive entities that combine the coldness of the machine with a pulsating dark femininity. Cast into shapes modeled after the artist’s arms and adorned with motifs of cicadas (immortality) and orchids (loyalty) they juxtapose organic matter with the syntheticism of plastic. In the soulless world of capitalist techno-doom these hybrid beings become resonators for the most difficult emotions, allowing us to channel pain and rage through heavy sound.
SIN DESTINO is a direct translation of NO FATE. Here, the Spanish language is a native, intimate medium of strength and poetry. Through her mother’s voice, and the scream of cicadas feminine spirits are summoned from the afterlife, completing a dark ritual born of raw sensuality and care, which are essential for survival and shaping the future in a conscious way.
